- What is a solar shade?
- A roller shade made with woven screen fabric. The weave blocks a percentage of sunlight and UV while preserving view-through — the "openness factor" (1% or 3% in our line) is how open the weave is. Same product residential sites call light filtering roller shades.
- What openness factor should I choose?
- 1% for maximum glare and heat control — screens, west sun, conference rooms. 3% when the view matters most and the sun load is moderate. Lower openness = tighter weave = darker room and less view-through.
- Do solar shades provide privacy at night?
- No — screen fabric works on the balance of light. During the day you see out and people cannot see in; at night with lights on, that reverses. Where nighttime privacy matters, use blackout roller shades or pair solars with drapery.
- Do darker or lighter fabrics work better?
- Dark fabrics (black, charcoal) give better view-through and glare control — the commercial default around screens. Light fabrics reflect a bit more heat but glow in direct sun and haze the view.
