Are blackout blinds and blackout roller shades the same thing?

Mostly, yes. "Blackout blinds" is the everyday search term; the product that actually blocks light is a roller shade with an opaque blackout fabric. Slatted blinds — faux wood, vinyl, aluminum — always leak light between the slats, so if the goal is a dark room, a blackout roller shade is the right product.

Do blackout shades block 100% of light?

The fabric itself is fully opaque — no light passes through it. Some light can still enter around the edges of the shade where it meets the window frame (a thin halo). An outside mount that overlaps the opening by a few inches on each side minimizes this. Inside mounts look cleaner but show more edge light.

What colors do blackout roller shades come in?

Six fabrics: White, Ivory, Chalk, Barley, Dark Grey, and Black. All are equally opaque — color affects the room-side look and how visible the edge halo is, not how much light passes through the fabric.
