Conference Room Shades

Glass conference rooms have two jobs: comfortable daylight meetings and presentation-ready darkening. Spec black solar for Work Mode and a separate blackout roller for Presentation Mode — not one fabric that fails at both.

Quick answer

Two modes, two shades

  • Work Mode: black solar at 1–3% for glare control and view
  • Presentation Mode: blackout roller for displays and confidentiality
  • Each shade can use a 3" or 4" aluminum fascia cassette
  • Manual cordless or chain — we do not claim AV scene automation
  • Black solar defaults for desk glare
  • Aluminum 3"/4" fascia finish
  • Cut to measured commercial openings
  • DFW install · nationwide ship
Black Green 2000 solar roller shade — workplace glare control with view-through

Why one fabric fails

A single solar shade cannot deliver cinema-dark projection. A single blackout shade kills daylight meetings and the “wow” glass wall. Industry dual-shade systems stack solar + blackout for exactly this reason. Home Builder Blinds sells that capability as two independent rollers per opening — a manual two-mode pairing with aluminum fascia on each.

Solar spec for boardrooms

Baseline: black Green solar at 1% for harsh exposures or screen-facing glass walls; 3% when the room is softer. Dark fabric keeps monitors and wall displays readable without turning the shade into a bright panel.

Blackout honesty: fabric vs light seals

Blackout fabric blocks light through the cloth. Light can still leak at the sides and sill unless side channels and sill accessories are part of the system. We do not claim 100% light-tight rooms or included side channels. For many conference rooms, a small edge glow is acceptable so attendees can still take notes.

Glass walls and corridor privacy

Interior glass conference rooms create 360° sightlines. Solar helps daytime privacy when corridors are bright; night meetings with lights on reverse the effect. Plan blackout for confidential sessions after dark.

How to order the pair

  • Measure each opening once; order matching width/drop for solar and blackout
  • Choose black solar (1% or 3%) + blackout fabric
  • Add aluminum fascia on cordless (included) or optionally on chain
  • Confirm mount depth and stacking order with your installer for dual rollers in one pocket or stacked brackets

Not claiming

We do not market dual 7" cassette housings, motorized Meeting Mode scenes, BMS integration, or side-channel kits as standard. Those are contract-automation tiers. Our path is commercial-ready fabrics + fascia you can order online or quote in volume.

Shades vs switchable privacy glass

PDLC / switchable film wins some “instant privacy” searches. Roller shades usually win on retrofit cost, glare control, and presentation blackout without replacing glass. Use film when the brief is electronic privacy; use dual rollers when the brief is glare + AV + budget.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best shades for a conference room?

A black solar roller for daytime glare and a separate blackout roller for presentations. That two-mode setup is the commercial standard for glass boardrooms.

Do I need dual shades or will solar alone work?

Solar alone works for daylight meetings. If you project content, host confidential evening sessions, or fight street-level night views, add blackout.

Will blackout make the room completely dark?

Blackout fabric stops light through the shade. Edge gaps can remain without side channels. Ask if your AV brief needs channel systems; many rooms prefer a little ambient light for note-taking.

Can you motorize conference shades?

We sell cordless and chain operation. For motorized scenes and AV triggers, work with an automation partner; we can still supply the fabric and fascia approach for many TI scopes.
