Quick answer

If your window height measures between 84⅛" and 96", order a 96" long blind. Stock faux wood lengths are not cut down — the extra slats rest on the sill — so pick the stock length at or just above your opening height. We carry 96" in 2" faux wood from 16.5" to 71" wide and in 1" vinyl mini from 16.5" to 71.5" wide.

  • Window height 84⅛"–96" → 96" blind. Measure height at left, center and right; use the longest.
  • 2" cordless faux wood at 96": the builder default for tall living-room, foyer and stairwell glass.
  • 1" vinyl mini at 96": lightest and lowest cost for rentals, turnovers and tall utility windows.
  • Inside mount: we deduct ½" from your width. Outside mount: enter the finished size you want to cover.

Where 96" blinds are used

Two-story foyer and stairwell windows
Tall fixed or single-hung units that run past 84". A 96" drop covers the glass without a seam; inside mount if the jamb has 1½"–2" of depth.
Transom-height picture windows
Great-room glass on 10- and 12-foot plates, often 90"–96" tall. One 96" blind per unit; order the stock width that fits each mull-to-mull opening.
8-foot door systems
Full-height entry or back-door glass on 8-foot doors, outside-mounted on the door face. Hold-down brackets ship with door-width faux wood orders.
Tall utility and garage windows
Multi-family stairwells, laundry towers and shop windows where a long, inexpensive vinyl mini blind is the usual spec.

Door glass on standard-height doors usually takes 64" or 72" — see the blinds for doors guide. Narrow glass beside the door: sidelight blinds guide.

Measuring for a 96" blind

  • Measure height in three places

Measure the opening height at the left, center and right and use the longest number. Any height from 84⅛" to 96" takes a 96" blind — stock faux wood lengths are not shortened, and the extra slats simply rest on the sill.

  • Inside vs outside mount

Inside mount sits in the frame; we deduct ½" from the width you enter for clearance. Outside mount covers the trim face — add about 3" to the width and 3" to the height of the glass so the blind overlaps the opening.

  • Order one blind per opening

Mulled units (two or three windows joined by a vertical post) get one blind each, not one blind across the whole span. Widths over 71.5" need two blinds or a different product.

Frequently asked questions

What windows need 96 inch long blinds?
Any opening that measures between 84⅛" and 96" tall: two-story foyer and stairwell windows, transom-height picture windows on 10- and 12-foot plates, and full-height glass on 8-foot door systems. If the height is 84" or under, step down to an 84" blind.
Are 96 inch blinds in stock or special order?
In stock. We carry a 96" length on 2" cordless faux wood in 17 builder widths from 16.5" to 71" and on 1" vinyl mini blinds from 16.5" to 71.5". Both are cut to your width and ship nationwide without a special quote.
Can a 96 inch blind be shortened to fit a 90 inch window?
Stock faux wood lengths are not cut down. Order the 96" length for any height from 84⅛" to 96" — the blind stops at the sill and the unused slats stack at the bottom rail. The cordless lift still raises the blind fully.
Do you make 96 inch long blinds in vinyl mini?
Yes. 1" vinyl mini blinds are stocked at a 96" drop from 16.5" to 71.5" wide. They are the lightest and lowest-cost option for tall rental, turnover and utility windows.
Do 96 inch long blinds work on 8-foot doors?
Yes, for full-height glass on 8-foot door systems. Order outside mount so the blind covers the glass on the door face; door-width 2" faux wood orders include hold-down brackets. For standard 6'8" doors, the 64" or 72" length is the usual fit — see our blinds for doors guide.
What is the widest 96 inch blind you stock?
71" wide in 2" faux wood and 71.5" wide in 1" vinyl mini. Openings wider than that take two blinds side by side, one per mulled unit.
What if my window is taller than 96 inches?
96" is the longest stock length for faux wood and vinyl mini blinds. For openings over 96", contact us with the measurements and we will quote the right product for the height.
Do 96 inch blinds ship nationwide?
Yes. Faux wood and vinyl mini blinds at 96" ship free nationwide. Dallas–Fort Worth customers can add professional installation or schedule a free measure.
