Why Rental Homes Need a Different Blind Spec
Owner-occupied homes optimize for style; rentals optimize for durability, replaceability, and install speed. The best rental spec is one product line and color across the property so every turnover reorder is a SKU match, not a remeasure.
- Production-built rentals (2010+) often use 35" bedroom and 47"–58" living openings — same modules as new construction
- Older stock (pre-2000) adds odd widths — custom cut matters more than big-box fixed lengths
- Patio sliders: roller shades or leave bare; vertical blinds only when sliders are standard width
- Garages, laundry, and utility rooms: vinyl mini keeps cost down
- Short-term furnished units may upgrade living areas to roller shades while keeping vinyl in bedrooms
Most Common Blind Sizes
These are the blind widths we ship most often on rental turn and whole-house orders. Each width links to available lengths:
| Window opening | Typical blind width | Common room |
|---|---|---|
| 35" | 34.5" | Bedrooms (most common) |
| 47" | 46.5" | Kitchen, dining, larger bedroom |
| 58" | 57.5" | Living / family room |
| 30" | 29.5" | Small bedroom, bath, stair |
| 24" | 23.5" | Laundry, narrow utility |

What Rental Property Owners Usually Buy
Vinyl mini blinds win on cost per window for high-turnover rentals. Faux wood is the sweet spot when you want a finished look that still handles moisture and daily use. For five or more doors under one LLC — or full apartment repositioning — see our multifamily renovation page or open a commercial account for repeat pricing.

The patterns above are a starting point — your specific floorplan and any builder upgrades can shift them, so always measure. Measure each opening's width at the top, middle, and bottom and height at left, center, and right. For an inside mount, report the exact opening and the factory deducts about ½" for clearance; for an outside mount, add 1.5–2" of overlap per side. Our measuring & installation guide has step-by-step instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best blinds for a rental property?
1" vinyl mini blinds are the standard for budget rentals and frequent turns — low cost, cordless, and easy to replace window-for-window. 2" faux wood is the most popular upgrade when you want a cleaner look in living areas and bedrooms without jumping to custom fabric shades. Pick one product and color for the entire property so future reorders stay simple.
How much do blinds cost for a whole rental house?
Material cost depends on product line and window count. Vinyl mini blinds are typically the lowest per opening; faux wood runs higher but still well below designer custom shops. Use our homeowner planner on /homeowner-blinds for a ballpark, or schedule a free DFW measure for a firm quote with installation included.
Should landlords install blinds themselves or hire installation?
DIY works for handy owners with a small property count. Professional install makes sense when you are turning multiple units, remote-managing out of state, or want warranty-backed fit on dozens of openings. We install throughout Dallas–Fort Worth and ship nationwide for self-install.
What blind sizes are most common in rental homes?
Bedrooms usually need 34.5" blinds (from 35" openings). Living areas often need 46.5" or 57.5". Older rentals add narrower 23.5"–31.5" utility windows. Measure each opening — do not assume every room matches the listing photos.
Do you offer volume pricing for multiple rental properties?
Yes. Landlords with repeat orders can use commercial accounts for tiered pricing. Full apartment complexes and 50+ unit renovations are handled on our multifamily blind renovation page with bulk delivery and phased install in TX, OK, and KS.
Are cordless blinds required for rentals?
Cordless is strongly recommended for child safety and fewer maintenance calls from broken lift cords. Our stocked vinyl mini and faux wood lines are cordless by default.
